RAVE REVIEWS FOR "THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO"
Wanderlust Opera's Georgia Jamieson Emms' The (Other) Marriage of Figaro offers a new translation which sparkles with wit, ingenuity and up-to-the-minute contemporary references.
The performance is confident, energetic and sensitive; the characters effortlessly guided by the beauty of their music.
Tim Clarke - Theatreview.org
Producer Georgia Jamieson Emms has skilfully adapted Mozart’s opera libretto into English with some pithy updated changes while honouring the ethos of the original.
The production is pacey in the imaginative hands of director Jacqueline Coats, whose clean, well considered and clearheaded direction makes the most of the even quality cast. All the performers sing and act with aplomb creating many hilarious moments in the forward momentum of the story. The musical values with piano accompaniment are high.
Garth Wilshere - New Zealand Opera News
Two hours of superb singing, hilarity that at times had a Benny Hill-like mania to it, and a convoluted plot of lechery, love and misunderstandings.
The Marriage of Figaro: One Crazy Day was directed by Jacqueline Coats working with Georgia Jamieson Emms' creatively adapted script. Georgia (who also played the part of Countess Almaviva) had simplified the storyline, minimised the cast, and crafted funny contemporary lyrics in English that still held to the essence of Mozart’s tale. Her goal is to make opera engaging, accessible and affordable; with Wanderlust’s travelling production of Marriage of Figaro, she certainly achieves this in spades.
Jamie McPhail - The Hook
Trimming the cast from 11 members to six, and cutting setion from the story but keeping the best bits and most of the sparkling arias and ensembles made it easier for the audience to appreciate the improbable story.
Plaudits aplenty to Jacqueline Coats for her skilled direction, and to Bruce Greenfield who underpinned the whole production superbly with his very stylish and totally supportive accompaniment.
